KOZABURO AW2018-19
KOZABURO AW2018-19 COLLECTION “GHOST RANCH”
Autumn – Winter was the initial season that was created around the concept of “Individual-Globalism” and Kozaburo Akasaka’s vision of somewhere but nowhere, where culture is limitless and borderless. It started with his road trip to Texas and New Mexico where he saw and experienced various contrasts. The juxtaposition of beautiful landscapes and parched deserts, of Native American culture and historical site of the “Manhattan Project”, where nuclear testing had been carried out.
An accidental meeting with Native American hand-weavers in Chimayo resonated with his sensitivity in craftsmanship and led to a collaboration for this season. At the same time, Kozaburo was inspired by the calligraphy of his childhood friend who had become a Buddhist monk in Kyoto. He observed similarities in both cultures, like the shared symbolism of snake motifs which represent eternity and good luck. The resultant collection is Kozaburo’s unique interpretation of American classic western wear and Japanese tailoring.
